Wow…pretty pleased with this booking!

I Blame Coco have been working their arses off all Summer - playing every festival under the sun, both here and abroad, and I’m very honoured to be hosting Miss Sumner and her band at the Hare and Hounds as they prepare for Reading and Leeds 2010.

She has signed a six album deal with Island, played alongside some of the most inspriring artists in the UK…here is the beginning of her ‘About’ section on her website… www.iblamecoco.co.uk

As Coco Sumner – the Coco you are blaming – was losing herself in the afternoon run-up to an esteemed charity gig at The Union Chapel with Arctic Monkeys and Richard Hawley, the simian silhouette of Ian Brown loped into view, nodding approvingly in the corner of the room. ‘And he told me,’ says Coco, in a rare moment of self-congratulation, ‘that my lyrics were mega.”

So…I Blame Coco will feast on the Soul Food Project before taking to the stage for the next Miss Perry Presents. Carlo and I have kept tickets as cheap as we possibly could, but this will be rammed. You know what happened at Darwin Deez? People got turned away..please get in early…

YOUVES are a punk quintet from small-town Nuneaton, UK. As if spitting in the face of their parochial backwater origins, their sound is a wide ranging spastic hybrid of post-punk, indie and hardcore spirit, alive with the fearless folly of youth. Lean, aggressive and kinetic, they’re a five-headed beast with a razor sharp sonic focus and steel eyed vision.

Whilst we could lie and say that this particular name change took place due to musical evolution and a new-found sense of confidence the truth is that the Americans (Mirror Mirror) came along in a wave of hype, leading to much confusion. Well, frankly, f**k them. We Brits did it first, and we are better.

Having released (under their previous alias) a split 7” with Rolo Tomassi, a limited edition tape and a solo debut single in the past year, they’re no strangers to productivity either. Allayed firmly with the UK underground, YOUVES are vocal proponents of the independent spirit; like Black Flag being produced by James Murphy, but without the steroids and militant dogma. They’re an efficient machine, well flexed, high on beer and protein, poised to steal hearts, minds and girlfriends.

Another AMAZING addition to the long list of inspiring artists to grace the stage at the Hare and Hounds… The two swedish sisters arrive in York Road to play venue 1 on Thursday!

FIRST AID KIT**
Much has been made of the way First Aid Kit – a pair of precociously talented teenage Swedish sisters – can tap into the mind of the wronged suburban housewives better than Loose Women. As curious a party piece that is, it rather overshadows their phenomenal way with gorgeous melodies and heart-melting harmonies. The evocative, lilting a capella of opener ‘In The Morning’, paves the way for the ’60s swing of ‘Waltz For Richard’, which comes over like a mythical Joni Mitchell and Carole King collaboration. While the duo’s fixation with Fleet Foxes is often clear, the spry ‘Sailor Song’ is proof there’s enough imagination in FAK for them to go the distance.

GOODNIGHT LENIN**
Goodnight Lenin have played alongside First Aid Kit before…here’s what the review of that last occasion had to say..

‘Further honing their fine vocal harmonies that so impressed me last time I saw them and continuing to draw their influences from Simon and Garfunkel, Dylan, CSNY and The Band, some of their self penned songs already sound like classics. And no, I’m not going off on one again… just listen to ‘Crook In The Creek’, and ‘Wenceslas Square’ on their MySpace thingy and judge for yourself. The crowd lapped it up and even the headline act – standing right at the front of the audience – seemed in awe of the performance.’

MR BONES AND THE DREAMERS**
Mr Bones & The Dreamers are a Midlands six piece with an impressive array of support slots under their belt: Alabama 3, Elvis Perkins, Okkervil River, The Walkmen and The Hold Steady. They play a taut acoustic folk-indie topped off by Mr Bones (I presume) mournful quaver. They may be quite intense live (“creating an atmosphere of quasi-hysterical devotion” their record label claim), on record they are intensely restrained, all control rather than release.

NEXT ONE THEN!…The incredible Dan Sartain is gracing the Hare and Hounds with his presence on Thursday 27th May. I’ve been hassling his management for this gig for 6 months. He is a true artist, intriguing and charming character and his music is something of a raw beauty.

He hails from Birmingham, Alabama. If one had to categorise it would be a mixture of rockabilly, early soul and down and dirty good old fashioned rock n roll. Already 5 albums in, he is currently touring his latest release through Island, Dan Sartain Lives. He has toured with both The White Stripes and The Hives throughout the world, and I am extremely humbled to have him play for us in Birmingham.

I’ve booked the fabulous Rivers Presley Set to support, who astound me everytime I see them, do please get there early - if you are a regular to Miss Perry Presents, you’ll know I don’t scrimp on the supports… definitely worth a watch and destined for good things.

And finally, Mr Matt Stocks of Kerrang Radio fame will be providing a 1950s megamix on the decks. Standard.

So, another Miss Perry Presents done and dusted. Had SUCH a good time, hope you all did too. The night was a complete sell out, and Carlo from Birmingham Promoters and I were so pleased you could all make it and that the continued loyalty to the Miss Perry Presents nights is overwhelming, so cheers!

Goodnight Lenin started the evening for us…an incredible local band, who were headhunted by the fine British Sea Power to go and play for them the night after..you can hear some more of their craft here»http://www.myspace.com/goodnightlenin

Brum based indie label and all round wonderful boys/table tennis masters, SPEECH FEWAPY, took firm control of the djing for the evening, and did a sterling job so massive thanks to Nick and Dan (who also play in a VERY wonderful band called The Traps - I’ll bag them for one of the next nights very soon) They also have a feature in this months BrumNotes Magazine so check it out.

And finally Mr Darwin Deez. First off he is a brilliantly wonderful chap. So friendly, courteous, professional, and above all FUNNY. I didn’t stop laughing the whole time I was cooking him his vegan meal, or watching them practise dance moves out the back. Hope you’ll agree a storming set, very slick and so entertaining. Felt really honoured to have secured that booking and got him off the NME tour for one night only. If you do anything at any festival this summer, go check him out. Pure comedy and musical value.

So..without too much arse licking..massive thanks to the Hare and Hounds (still amazes me that venue) all the crew there, Adam Regan for anchoring and supporting such a place, Mr Solazzo from Birmingham Promoters (my partner in crime); Speech Fewapy; Goodnight Lenin; Jon Nash Sound Supremo; Richard Shakespere for some pretty incredible photography, Ian Dunn from Principle Photography and the awesome Elvis @ Urbanfly for some of the best graphic design/posters/flyers.

So…after the success of that, Carlo and I have been busy working away on the next few months and have some INCREDIBLE events ahead to see us safely into the summer..

Next Miss Perry Presents is April 29th..when Darwin Deez steps off the NME Radar tourbus for one night only to come and rock the proverbial socks off the Hare and Hounds.

He has gained such hype over the past few months, being dubbed the indie Michael Jackson and leaving audiences open mouthed at his live shows. South Birmingham is in for a big treat and we look forward to welcoming him and his band of merry dancers to the Heath.

KING CHARLES RESCHEDULED TO MARCH 25TH

VERY quick message to remind you that Miss Perry Presents King Charles is not tonight as first scheduled but now a month later on MARCH 25TH. This was due to the King having quite a nasty accident and spending some time recouperating in hospital. He is well and we can’t wait to welcome him at the Hare and Hounds in a months time.

The lineup of Malpas and Tom Peel in support remains the same and all original tickets are still valid.

January 28th - The Boy Who Trapped The Sun with support from Boat to Row

Going to be absolutely beautiful…a sit down, red wine affair…

Next up is Band of Skulls who return for their second Miss Perry Presents outing…

then…3 days later…Rich, Hamish, Wayne and Geoff return to the Hare and Hounds..

Animal Kingdom play their second Miss Perry outing too…with a great great local support line up too…celestial brum beauty!

And then merely the week after, we see the much coveted King Charles travel from London to the Hare and Hounds to play an incredible special show….

IT’S HERE!! THE NEXT ANNOUNCEMENT! I saw King Charles play at Ben Lovetts (Mumford & Sons) night, Communion, at Notting Hill Arts Centre a few months back, and was transfixed..SUCH an incredible mixture of styles and ideas..intelligent hooks, imaginative orchestration and, what a frontman! I’ve been playing some tracks, Mr Flick and Love Lust whilst out djing and on Kerrang! radio, and the response is ALL POSITIVE! I urge you to trust me on this one and come and see something different, brilliant, and exciting.

So….on Thursday 29th October, I met the massively talented Animal Kingdom for soundcheck at the Hare and Hounds. I’ve been playing their single Signs and Wonders on Q Radio, and was so thrilled to be able to promote them up in Birmingham at Miss Perry Presents. The album is fast becoming a ‘most played’ on my iTunes and their live set was pretty impeccable. And to top it all off, they are some of the nicest people I’ve met recently - we all stayed up late putting the world to rights, but if this world WAS all hunky dory, their album would be floating around the top 20 somewhere. Also a big thank you must go out to the support that night, The Scholars, who are some of the hardest working new bands on the circuit. EVENTUALLY! Miss Perry uploads the photos from the first ever Miss Perry Presents… The incredible Pulled Apart By Horses opened the residency with a performance that shook the not-knowing-what-to-expect audience to the core. Since then the band have played most summer festivals in the UK, toured Europe and most recently been on the road with Biffy Clyro. They are set for huge things and rightly so.
